5. General Information: Embracing Postnatal Confinement

Postnatal confinement, or 坐月子 (zuò yuè zi), is a traditional Chinese practice spanning over 2,000 years, dedicated to a new mother’s recovery after childbirth. It typically lasts 28 days or more and emphasizes complete rest, specialized nutrition, and protection from external elements. This period is crucial for restoring your body’s vital energy (qi) and blood, allowing internal organs to return to their pre-pregnancy state, and replenishing strength. It’s a sacred time for physical healing, emotional well-being, and bonding with your new-born baby, setting the foundation for your long-term health.
Proper nutrition during confinement is paramount. For the mother, it facilitates tissue repair, aids uterine recovery, replenishes energy, and supports robust milk production for breastfeeding. It also contributes to emotional well-being by providing the necessary nutrients to prevent fatigue and support mental health, fostering a stress-free environment for bonding. For the new-born, a well-nourished mother ensures a consistent supply of nutrient-rich breast milk, providing the best possible start in life. True Taste’s meals are meticulously designed to provide these crucial benefits, extending the holistic care of Zinnia Fields to your home.
The core principles revolve around “warming” foods to restore internal heat and promote circulation, such as ginger, sesame oil, and rice wine. Protein-rich foods are vital for repair and energy, and herbal soups/tonics are used to replenish vital energy and support lactation. True Taste expertly incorporates these traditional principles, while also integrating modern nutritional science to ensure our meals are balanced, delicious, and effective. We focus on providing the essential nutrients your body needs for comprehensive recovery, ensuring you receive the highest standard of care, just as you would at Zinnia Fields.
